I suspect it's from diuretic abuse...I've seen my share of bodybuilders drop dead from dieuretics. Lasix, especially, intravenous can be deadly!

A Rhode Island man who was planning to make a comeback in his favorite sport of bodybuilding collapsed and died while preparing for a local competition.

Anthony D'Arezzo, 44, of Johnston, R.I., was in Pittsburgh for the weekend's NPC Teen, Collegiate and Masters National Championships bodybuilding competition when he collapsed Friday afternoon in his hotel room at Sheraton Station Square.

An autopsy yesterday ruled that Mr. D'Arezzo died of cardiomyopathy, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner's office.

Mr. D'Arezzo had long battled heart disease, said friend Dave Palumbo.

According to a resume posted on Mr. D'Arezzo's Web site, he had not participated in a major bodybuilding event since 1997.

"He was trying a comeback," said Mr. Palumbo, who spoke with Mr. D'Arezzo earlier on Friday.

Mr. D'Arezzo was a fitness trainer in Providence, R.I. The competition was taking place at the Sheraton.

thats what people risk in this sport, i feel for him and his family, but when you play russian roulette you risk getting a loaded chamber.

Could not get much more stupid than this. ( the scenario ) . If not dying for steroids then it´s diuretics..... what´s wrong w people these days? Get all the possible shorcuts an if lucky reach 50 yrs of age . Well at least it´s good to show off these things happen .....

Any guidelines we can give here on safe use of lasix? We can say "don't use lasix" but people will still use it. Perhaps we can post some guidelines for "safe" dosing and use.

One thing is for sure... if you use lasix, be sure to take lots of potassium in the following hours. Potassium is depleted rapidly and effectively by lasix, causing an extreme electrolyte imbalance.

well I've done oral lasix and I've taken intravenous lasix...IMO, intravenous is easier to control and safer IF done with a professional, BUT it can kill you on the spot. Oral lasix is harder to dose/control, but it's easier to do b/c you don't feel like a crack head doing it :bigsmile

Safe dosages? well there are semi-safe dosages, but I don't think you're ever truly safe with hardcore diuretics.
