Do police departments test for steroids...Hair sample tests?

I have a friend who is a police officer and they are doing his drug tests differently. other than using a urine sample, they now are wanting a hair sample. Does this mean they are possible going to test gim for steroids? He is a big guy and told him he needs to cut back because it is bicoming obvious he uses. He is worried that because they are using a hair sample, they possible might be testing for steroids. It is not just him, it is the whole department. So do police agencies test for steroids. I know it has been asked before but just seems different that they want a hair sample because I hear hair samples are the new way to test for steroids and other drugs.

The hair test will determine how many months ago recreation drugs were used. Normally, no one tests for a job drug test for steroids unless you give them a reason.

Also, as far as blood tests are concerned, I'm not so sure that there are tests that will determine which steroids are being used....only total and free test levels to tip them off that your friend is using something to boost his testosterone levels. I've seen hair tests be done that are done solely for the purpose to back up lie detector tests to ascertain whether recreation drugs have been done within a certain period of time. I've never seen a hair test yet that tests for test levels, but I haven't had a test in 5 years either, so it is possible by now.

hey all this about hair tests, this is just an idea but;

why not just shave your heads?
then you will have no hair they can test.

You can shave your head, but they normally will take it from your armpit.

now , why do they test for steroids in the police? just ´cause it´s illegal to use them or do they have even better reason? Ronnie Coleman was a cop for yrs and one might think he had already then used something....that´s why he quit? tests?

The hair sample test is normally to test for rec drugs: meth, ecstasy, etc. As far as I know very few if any employment drug tests check for steroids.

Very correct. Even if they did, steroids wont show up on a folicule test. as I know of.
