Default BUST: Street Value of Steroid Bust at $250,000; Suspect Charged

The Marshfield man arrested in what Police Chief Joe Stroik says is the largest drug bust in Wood County is now charged.

Police found the drugs at the home of 20-year-old Kyle Bredl on Thursday.

He appeared in court today and is charged with delivery of controlled substances and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

The judge authorized he be held on a $5000 signature bond.

Bredly is scheduled to make his inital court appearance on January 23.

Between October 2006 and January 11, 2007, authorites say he sold steroids to an undercover officer in Stevens Point three times and once in Marshfield. They say about $10,000 worth of steroids were bought, $6000 of which occurred on January 11.

After his arrest, a box of steroids ready to be shipped outside Wisconsin was found in his vehicle.

His residence at 909 Western Street in Marshfield was then searched. Police there say they found a variety of steroids in liquid, powder and capsule form. They originally estimated the street value of those steroids to be at least $120,000. However, after identifying further bulk substances, they now believe the value may be $250,000.

Packaging and processing materials were also found.

The investigation has been linked to countries including Canada and China, as well as other states.

"He was getting it from quite a distance," says Stoik. "He certainly could have been selling it to anywhere in the United States or further."

Authorities say three search warrants were executed in Missoula, Montana over the weekend. One man was arrested on steroid-related charges.

Some of the anabolic steroids discovered include Methandrostenolone, Stanozolol and Oxymetholone. All three are considered Schedule III drugs and fall under control of the Wisconsin Uniform Controlled Substances Act

I do not understand law enforcement having such a hard-on for juice. Hell I distinctly remember off duty cops openly discussing Dbol back in the 80's. Then again, there's a big diff. between a 20yr old kid and a 35yr old man as age relates to hormones.

Yea ur probly right. I just don't think the $$ LE invests in steroid busts translates into a proportionate reduction of crime that steroid use/trafficking "plagues" society w/. I can totally understand nailing some dipshit who sells to teenagers who are permanently ****ing up they're bodies but < that is a small % of face to face gym/street sales. The avg. kid couldn't "homebrew" w/ chinese powder so pursuing that stuff makes no sense either. China/Mexico/Great Britiain have much more logical/realistic drug laws. The % of chance that addiction will occur w/ steroid use is ridiculously low.

ROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Authorities arrested more than 120 people and uncovered dozens of steroid labs in an international investigation into the illicit trade of performance-enhancing drugs, federal officials announced Monday.

The Drug Enforcement Administration said the investigation, dubbed Operation Raw Deal, was assisted by governments of nine other countries, including China.

In the U.S., agents seized 56 labs that manufactured anabolic steroids and human growth hormone, the DEA said. Agents seized 11.4 million doses of drugs in all.

The seizures and arrests follow a growing number of scandals in the sports world over steroid abuse, but federal authorities in Rhode Island said no professional athletes were directly involved in the investigation.

DEA spokesman Michael Sanders said 143 federal search warrants were issued during the 18-month investigation, many of them since Thursday. The Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Food and Drug Administration were also involved.

In Connecticut, four men were charged with purchasing raw steroid powder from China, manufacturing anabolic steroids in home laboratories and distributed them to customers through a MySpace.com profile and a Web site.

A Chinese corporation and its chief executive were indicted in Rhode Island on federal charges of smuggling illegal human growth hormone into the country in connection with the operation.

"China really stepped up to the plate to help us in this investigation," DEA spokesman Garrison Courtney said in Washington.

The federal grand jury in Rhode Island indicted Genescience Pharmaceutical Co. and its CEO, Lei Jin, last week on charges including money laundering and conspiracy to facilitate the sale of smuggled goods. Lin is accused of marketing the drugs, under the brand name Jinotropin, through e-mail and Web sites.

"Even though their storefront is the Internet, rather than the street corner, the people who engage in the smuggling and distribution of these substances are drug dealers, plain and simple, and we will treat them accordingly," U.S. Attorney Robert Clark Corrente said.

In all, investigators seized over 500 pounds of raw ingredients for steroid manufacture that originated in China.

Other countries participating in the investigation were Mexico, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Sweden and ********.

Police in Denmark raided 26 locations across the country. Germany's Federal Criminal office said its agents closed five illicit labs and confiscated tens of thousands of illicit tablets and capsules as part of searches carried out in five of the nation's 16 states.

Danish police were able to see the China link in the investigation through money transfers between a buyer and a Chinese seller, said Joergen Isalin of the Denmark National Police investigative center.
